Engage

Children, like adults, want to feel valued and loved. When parents or caregivers actively participate in their lives, it fosters a sense of security and self-worth in the child. Here are key points for parents to ponder on;

Actions Speak Louder Than Words: It's not enough to simply tell a child they are important; showing them through actions is more powerful. When parents actively participate in activities like reading together or visiting places, it demonstrates to the child that they truly matter and are a priority.

Quality Time: Spending quality time with children, where you are fully present and engaged in their activities, helps strengthen the parent-child bond. This time together allows for meaningful interactions and opportunities for the child to express themselves.

Respect and Validation: Actively listening to a child's questions and thoughts shows respect for their opinions and ideas. This validation boosts their confidence and encourages them to communicate openly.

Leading by Example: As adults, we often expect the same level of attention and engagement from others. Being attentive when interacting with children sets a positive example for them to follow in their own relationships.

Reading Together: Reading is not only an excellent way to spend time together but also encourages learning and cognitive development in children. It opens up avenues for discussions and allows parents to gauge their child's understanding of various topics.

Two-Way Communication: Engaging in conversations with children, asking questions and encouraging them to ask questions too, creates a dynamic exchange of thoughts and ideas. This promotes intellectual growth and helps parents understand their child's perspectives better.

Building Self-Esteem: Regular engagement and meaningful interactions with parents or caregivers can significantly impact a child's self-esteem. Feeling valued and loved helps them develop a positive self-image.

As parents, the time and attention we give to our children are invaluable gifts that shape their emotional well-being and overall development. By actively engaging with them, we create a nurturing environment that fosters their growth and builds a strong parent-child relationship.

Train

Did you know that in an average class, 8 children leave primary school unable to read well? That at least 8 out of 25 children are not able to read. Does that shock you?

The greatest book ever written says “train a child in the way they should go”, proverbs 22:6. One of the things we as parents or guidance have the opportunity to do is to train our children to read. When we read with our children from a very young age we are building their brain muscles. This can help reduce the number of children that leave primary school unable to read.

The attention you can give to your child/ren, a teacher in a class of 20-30 is unable to give. And their time is very limited. You have more time and oppoturninty especially if you begin early.

When we read with our children we are not just training their brain muscles but also building their confidence as they grow.

To train is to show the way of how something is done. The best way to train our children is by being their best example. So when our children see us reading their encouraged to read to and by the time we sit down to read with them it will be easy and fun for them.

Training your child to read is training him/her to be a leader because leaders are readers.

WHY READ? https://kingdomheritage.co.uk/read/ Mon, 19 Dec 2022 16:00:19 +0000 https://kingdomheritage.co.uk/?p=171
blog01

Reading and storytelling with your children promotes brain development and imagination, develops language and emotions, and strengthens their relationship with you and others.

The first English language translation of one of the greatest books ever written says ''study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” The Bible, 2 Timothy 2:15. Of all the ways you can study, reading is definitely the best way.

Reading, especially a physical paper book is good for you and your children because it improves your focus, memory, empathy, and communication skills. Many life coaches have testified that reading even before going to bed is a good tool for relaxing the mind, winding down, and giving you better sleep than watching something.

According to studies when reading calms you down, helps reduce stress, improves your mental health, and helps you live longer. Reading also allows you to learn new things to help you succeed in your work and relationships. Blessed reading.
